Tin Based Silicone Mold Compounds (also see Resilpom Tin Silicone Putty)


Tin-Based Silicones... consist of two components (part B base and part A catalyst), which, after mixing at the proper ratio by weight or volume, cure at room temperature (RTV) to flexible, high tear-strength rubbers. Although the tin-based silicones are usually poured into molds they can be made brushable by adding a thixotropic additive. All these mold rubbers are tin-catalyzed, condensation-cure systems. They are ideal for molds where easy release or high temperature resistance is required. They are recommended for casting polyester, epoxy and polyurethane resins, waxes, polyvinyl compounds, all gypsum products and low-temperature metals. The 70 series tinsils are manufactured by Polytek and the Mold-Max series by Smooth-On. For the special effects industry we also have a variety of products for skins and other creepy things.

Mold Max 10T

Mold Max 10T silicone is a water white translucent tin cured silicone rubber compound that has exceptional tear strength and working properties. It features Smooth-On’s “Libra” catalyst for long library life. Mixed 100A:10B by weight, vacuum degassing is recommended for de-airing. Rubber cures overnight at room temperature. Similar in appearance to Smooth-On’s premium Dragon Skin platinum silicones, Mold Max‘T’ silicone is a less costly alternative for creating animatronic skin effects. Mold Max‘T’ silicone can be thickened with Thi-Vex II thickener for brush-on application and effects. An infinite number of color effects can be achieved by adding Silc Pig Pigments. Mold Max‘T’ series silicones are also good for making molds used for casting plaster and wax.

GI-1110
This Silicone's Inc. product yields a soft and durable mold. Acceleratable with Ultrafast catalyst. May be thinned using silicone fluid. GI-1110 is a high tear strength, tin-catalyzed RTV-2 silicone rubber, which was designed for casting polyester parts.

GI-1110 is especially good for molds with deep undercuts and for molds that require flexing for part removal. GI-1110 is not sensitive to inhibition, meaning it will cure at room temperature over virtually any surface. It is easy to mix and de-air, and will cure with only a slight degree of shrinkage. The speed at which the rubber hardens can be accelerated with special activators.

Condensation cure, two-component silicone rubbers are excellent for most general mold making and prototype applications. They are excellent for casting waxes, gypsum, epoxies and other plastics. GI-1110 is extremely useful for those applications where superior elongation and low durometer are required.

Mold-Max 20 is a great rubber and unbeatable price wise. A rubber ideal for molds directly over water clay. It’s high flexibility makes it an ideal rubber for highly detailed and deeply undercut originals.

Mold Max Silicones are new tin-cured silicone rubber compounds that have exceptional tear strength and working properties. Mold Max Silicones cure overnight and feature knotty tear propagation (if the rubber is torn, the tear quickly terminates in a “knot” reducing further mold damage).

Mold Max Silicones will reproduce the finest detail and are suitable for a variety of industrial and art related applications including making molds for reproducing prototype, furniture, sculpture and architectural elements. Mold Max 20 Silicones can be thickened with Thi-Vex II thixotropic additive for brush-on application and accelerated using Accel-T. Mold Max Silicones can be pigmented with Silc Pig Pigments.

Mold Max Silicones can also be used to cast a variety of materials including wax, gypsum, low melt alloys/metals and urethane, epoxy or polyester resins (without using a release agent).

Tinsil 70-25
One of the most popular silicone rubbers, 70-25 is used widely in foundries and studios alike. The medium flexibility of this rubber makes an excellent choice for a wide variety of jobs.

TinSil® 70 Series rubbers consist of a liquid Part B base and Part A accelerator, which after mixing at the proper ratio by weight, cure at room temperature to flexible, high tear strength, RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone rubbers. All TinSil® 70 Series mold rubbers are tin-catalyzed, condensation-cure systems. They are ideal for molds where easy release or high temperature resistance is needed. They are recommended for evaluation as mold materials for polyester, epoxy and polyurethane resins and waxes.

TinSil® 70-25 cures to Shore A-25 hardness within 24-48 hours. (TinSil® 70-30 is slightly tougher and firmer than TinSil® 70-25.

For Faster Cure - TinSil® FastCat can be used in addition to or in place of any TinSil® Part A for an accelerated demold. TinThix for thickening TinSil.

OOMOO 25

OOMOO 25 is a new 1A:1B by volume mix silicone rubber that has better over all properties (tear strength, etc.). OOMOO 25 has a relatively low viscosity and does not require vacuum degassing.

This, plus the 1A:1B by volume mix ratio is a big advantage for the hobby market, novice mold makers, etc. that do not have a scale to properly weigh product or a vacuum pump to de-air standard silicone products.

No Vacuuming – No Scale – Stupid Name… Introducing OOMOO 25. OOMOO 25 is easy to use silicone rubber compounds that features convenient one to one by volume mix ratio (no scale necessary). It has very low viscosity for easy mixing and pouring, and vacuum degassing is not necessary. OOMOO 25 cures at room temperature with negligible shrinkage. OOMOO 25 is a faster version, with a 15 minute pot life and 75 minute cure time. (OOMOO 30 has a 30 minute pot life, with a 6 hour cure time.) This rubber was designed for the novice mold making – OOMOO silicones do not have great tear strength. They are good for making simple one or two piece block molds. If you require high-tear strength silicone, Mold Max Silicones are recommended.

OOMOO 25 is suitable for a variety of art related and industrial applications including making molds for sculpture and prototype reproduction, casting plaster, resin and wax.

Mold Max Stroke Brushable Silicone Rubber

Mold Max Stroke is a brushable tin silicone rubber that self-thickens for making fast brush-on molds of almost any model. Properly applied, it will hold a vertical surface and will reproduce the finest detail. Mixed 100A:10B by weight, rubber quickly develops thixotropy and can be applied with a brush or spatula. Working time is 20 minutes, re-coat time is 45 minutes and cure time after the final layer has been applied is 16 hours at room temperature.
Mold Max Stroke silicone will not stick to most surfaces and will cure with negligible shrinkage to astrong, flexible Shore 30A rubber. 4 thin layers is all that is necessary to make a strong and durable production mold for casting wax, gypsum, concrete or resins (urethane, polyester, etc.). Applications include reproducing sculpture, architectural restoration, making candle molds, casting pewter, etc.

GI-1000
This Silicone's Inc. product is the standard for Mold Making Silicone in the industry. Works great for casting urethanes. It is also heat resistant up to 400 F, so you can use it to bake foam latex. Acceleratable with Ultrafast catalyst.

  • Smooth-On Silicone Thinner
Silicone Thinner is a non-reactive silicone fluid that will lower the mixed viscosity of tin cure (condensation) or platinum cure (addition) silicone rubber products. Silicone Thinner offers the following advantages:

* A lower mixed viscosity (A+B) means that the rubber will de-air faster when vacuuming.
* Mixed rubber (A+B) will flow better over intricate model detail.
* Silicone Thinner will lower the ultimate shore hardness (durometer) of cured silicone rubber.
* Pot life (working time) is increased in proportion to the amount of Silicone Thinner used.

Disadvantage: Ultimate tear and tensile strength are reduced in proportion to the amount of Silicone Thinner added, however knotty tear properties of the Mold Maxtm series rubbers are unaffected
